After roughly two months of testing, it appears that Spotify is ready to bring its most important feature to Apple Watch. The Spotify Apple Watch app is finally adding the option to stream music or podcasts without a connection to the iPhone.
Spotify's Apple Watch app offers the ability to play music on the Apple Watch and control how music is played to Spotify Connect-compatible devices. However, since 2018, it hasn't allowed you to sync songs for offline playback or directly stream songs to the Apple Watch from your phone or LTE on the watch.

Provided that you should have the Spotify app on your iPhone and signed in. Ensure that you are using the compatible version of iPhone and Apple Watch running on iOS 10 or above and WatchOS 4 or later respectively. The Galaxy Watch Active was able to track my workouts, walking minutes and stressed out minutes. Samsung is one of a few smartwatch makers with a partnership with Spotify, so, as a Spotify premium subscriber, I could save running playlists directly on the smartwatch and listen to them without an LTE connection or my smartphone nearby. Spotify confirmed today it has begun to roll out support for standalone streaming on its Apple Watch app. The feature had been spotted in testing back in September, and arrives roughly two years.
It just replaced the “Now Playing” screen on the Apple Watch and gave you a refined way to control songs being played on your iPhone or Spotify Connect devices - effectively making the watch a remote control for the iPhone.

But several users have now reported (via 9to5Mac) that they can directly stream music or podcasts through the Watch app, which means they don’t need an iPhone close by to stream their playlists. They can do it over Wi-Fi or a cellular connection instead. The feature seems to be testing right now.
In a statement to Engadget, Spotify said that, after an initial testing period, it is now 'rolling out streaming capabilities' for Spotify on the Apple Watch. Offline listening still isn't included in the Apple Watch app, unfortunately although Spotify has promised in the past that the feature is in the works, though.
It worth noting that Spotify has been ramping up efforts on adding features to its app on Apple's software platform. It added Siri support to the Watch app in the spring, for example and there’s now an iOS 14 widget too. This despite the company and Apple being at loggerheads over fees and App Store rules.
